What is Trials

Trials is a new form of mountain biking that is growing fast. It is becoming very popular in the MTB world.

Trials consists of a rocky track on which the riders have to get through the sections putting their feet down the least amount of times. Whoever has the lowest score wins.

The main rules of trials are that if you put your foot down it is one point added to your score. Once you put your foot down you can keep it down and move the bike. This is called a dab. If you put both feet on the ground at the same time that adds five points and you are eliminated. If you put one foot down four times then you are also eliminated and add 5 points to your score. If you lean your body against a wall or rock you add five points and are eliminated. If you just brush the wall or rock then it is one point and if you rest your handlebars on a rock then it is one point also.

In trials you use a small, ridged bike (no suspension) that is extremely light. For more information on trials bikes read the trials bike setup page.

Trials has also swept the nation with Urban Trials. This is basically a fun way for the trials riders to practice on obstacles like man holes and those concrete bolards. It is growing quickly and also becoming very popular with youngsters like myself.

And there is more trials competitions called speed trials in which the riders go as quickly as they can over obstacles like cars and recycling bins and other things.
